Shipping & Payment

We are strictly a mail order nursery.

Please order by using our online shopping cart system or by faxing or mailing your order to us. We do not sell plants at the nursery. We are not able to accept phone orders. Please do not combine spring and fall shipments on the same order. Spring and Fall shipments are booked as separate orders with separate shipping charges.

Payment

Please pay with your order to hold your plants for shipping. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express as well as checks and money orders for online, faxed and mailed orders for plants and books. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express to purchase online gift certificates. We process charges when we receive your order, and plants are reserved in the order in which payment is received. We do not bill for payment. We confirm orders by email. Please include your e-mail address as well as a phone number where we may reach you during the day or leave a message in case we have a question about your order.

Please note that we can ship orders paid by credit cards and money orders once payment is received. Unfortunately, we must wait to ship orders paid with checks until the check has actually cleared our bank.

Substitutions

We do not substitute unless you request us to do so. Please include a list of substitutes either in the comments screen at the end of the order form (after the order is confirmed) or in a separate email. Refunds on out of stock items are sent with your order.

Books

Our books are priced postpaid in the US and are not subject to the basic shipping and handling charge. Unless you request a specific ship date, most books are shipped within 2-3 business days via US Media Mail. Please ask for quotes on foreign book orders. Book prices can change without notice because of exchange rate changes or publishers' increases. We will notify you if an increase applies before we charge for the order.

Sales Tax

For orders shipped to Pennsylvania addresses, 6% sales tax is added to the total plant, shipping and book costs.

Shipping Dates

We ship most plants on Mondays and Tuesdays during the fall (Sept-Dec) and spring (Mar-June). If you have a specific ship date or time when you don't want your order to be shipped, please e-mail us. Normally, we schedule shipments based on your location as well as what is the best time for the plants. We are able to ship certain plants safely at other times of the year, depending on the particular plant as well as your location. Once again, please e-mail us if you would like to have an order shipped during the winter and summer months and we will advise you on the possibility of shipping your order. Please note that winter temperatures here in Pennsylvania may cause us to delay shipment of tropical plants until milder weather is forecast.

Shipping Locations & Requirements

State agricultural regulations requires that plants sent to CA, WA, AZ, OR, ID, NV, and UT be shipped without soil. Because of state regulations, we cannot ship certain plants to Hawai'i including orchids and palms. Please inquire about orders outside of the US. We decide on a case by case basis whether or not we will ship to other countries. Export orders are prepaid by credit card and are shipped entirely at the customer's risk. Additional preparation/inspection charges apply.

Shipping Methods

Please note that we have received a discount with FedEx that makes their prices competative with the recently increased US Priority Mail rates. As a result the shipping/handling costs are the same for either method of delivery and are still less than last year's FedEx shipping/handling charges.

We ship most plant orders on Monday & Tuesdays by one of these methods.

  • FedEx: We prefer to ship most orders via FedEx 2nd Day. Orders shipped via FedEx may be tracked online at www.fedex.com and are insured. Please note that a street address is required for FedEx delivery. FedEx does require a delivery signature for packages valued over $499. They also may require a signature for packages delivered to multi-unit dwellings such as apartment or office buildings as well as businesses. We are required to provide a phone number when completing the FedEx waybill so please be sure to provide one with your order.
  • USPS: We still offer US Priority Mail as a secondary shipping option for those who prefer US Priority Mail shipping or wish to have their order shipped to a PO Box number. Please be sure to provide a delivery address where mail is delivered if selecting this option. Also, because most packages are insured, the US Postal Service requires a delivery signature for packages valued at over $200. Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation has been quite reliable over the past few years with most packages arriving in 2-4 days although there is no guaranteed delivery period. However, the package cannot be tracked; only delivery can be confirmed online at www.usps.com. Please note that claims for damage can be filed immediately with the Postal Service while claims for lost orders do require a 21-day waiting period.


International Orders

Plants: We ship plants outside the US on a case by case basis. We regret that because of frequently changing and increasingly onerous multiple inspection requirements, we CANNOT ship plants to countries in the European Union.

All foreign orders require a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express) for payment. We can also accept wire transfers and Paypal. The minimum plant order is $500.00 US. There is a fee of $40 for the phytosanitary certificate and a processing/packing fee of $40.00 US which covers 4 plants, and $4.00 per plant for additional plants. Shipping is airmail express insured at cost.

Plants and fees are charged on the day the order is received to reserve the plants. Shipping is charged separately on the shipping day at cost. If an order is canceled after we have scheduled inspection, the cost of the plants is refunded but the other charges are not refunded. There is no plant guarantee on foreign orders.

We recommend that you fax your order with shipping address, telephone number, and Visa, MasterCard, or American Express information to 1-717-938-0771. Please be sure to include the expiration date and security code for the credit card. We provide the phytosanitary certificate but please check with your own country's authorities for information on possible import duties or required permits on your side.

Books: We are able to ship books outside the United States. Foreign book orders require a credit card for payment. We recommend that you fax your order with shipping address, telephone number, and Visa, MasterCard, or American Express information to 1-717-938-0771. Please be sure to include the expiration date and security code for the credit card.

Once we receive your order, we will check with our local post office and quote shipping costs based on the book and the various shipping options available to your country.
