Nypa fruticans

Nypa fruticans

The water palm or nipa is found in SE Asia where it grows along rivers and in swamps, usually with its roots in water. It makes a short trunk with long, dark green, feathery fronds. It is a beautiful container plant. Plant it in heavy garden soil (not potting soil) with the large seed exposed, cover the soil with gravel and add water. It likes sun or strong light. Keep indoors in a bright window or greenhouse in winter. This plant will add a new dimension to water gardening. These are plants from wild-collected seed from Thailand. USDA Zone 10-11.

Grown in 3.5" pots.
