The species Coniogramme intermedia is widespread in East Asia; it is a terrestrial clumping fern with glossy, pinnately compound leaves. This rare Japanese horticultural mutation grows to about a foot tall with erect and spreading fronds, mostly simple with an unusual rippled leaf surface. The Japanese name means "velvet". USDA Zones 8-10.
