Arisaemas (Easy to grow species)

These Arisaema species are considered to be some of the easier ones to grow requiring only a loose well-drained location, shade during the summer and regular watering until late summer. They do especially well in raised beds and can be dry in late summer throught the following spring. To view the entire selection of Arisaemas available click here.

Asian Jack-in-the-pulpits continue to increase in popularity. The "flowers" (inflorescences) consist of a club-shaped or whip-like appendage (the spadix) inside a hooded tube (the spathe). These are, respectively, the "jack" and the "pulpit". They are variously beautiful or bizarre, but they always elicit comment in the garden. Tall species are great "pop-up" plants among shade perennials such as hostas and ferns. Shorter species are good rock garden plants, or they may be used as specimens or massed in the shade garden. All can produce showy red or orange heads of fruit in late summer to fall.

Because most Arisaema shipped in the fall and winter are unpotted tubers, we have reduced their shipping/handling costs. Each dormant unpotted Arisaema tuber shipped in the fall or winter now counts as a little over a 1/4 of a plant unit. If you are only ordering dormant Arisaema tubers in the fall or winter, the base shipping and handling charge (plus a few extra cents) includes the shipment of 8 unpotted tubers so be sure to try several! Please note that Arisaema negishii is not included in this offer because it must remain potted.

Please note that while we may have a few unpotted Arisaema available for early Fall shipment, the bulk of the Arisaema corms will be shipped November through February once we receive them from our suppliers and as temperatures allow.

We sell blooming size 4 to 7 year old corms. Unpotted tubers are typically shipped in late fall through late winter and can be planted upon receipt as long as the ground is not frozen or stored in the refrigerator. Spring shipments are potted plants grown in 2.5", 3.5" and 5" pots depending on the species and size of the corm. Please click link below for more details.
